What’s the power of your own thoughts?
I often try to make myself aware of one very important mental dynamic, the most important one to know about the relationship between my heart and my head.
What I mean here is my thinking which goes on in my head and the way I feel about it in my mind.
It is very important to realize that we are constantly thinking. It would be foolish if you believe you know this and you are fully aware of this fact of life. Till this moment while you are reading what I have written you have certainly lost sight of the fact that you were doing it.
Truth is, unless you make yourself aware you simply forget that it is occurring. Thinking works the same way. And because you are always thinking you might forget that it’s happening, and you are ignorant about it. Forgetting that you thinking can actually cause some serious problems in your life such as unhappiness, anger, guilt, inner conflicts and stress. The reason is simple. What you think comes back to you as a feeling; as a response; and there is a relationship.
It’s like trying to get angry without having angry thoughts! Its like being stressed without having stressful thoughts – or feeling sad without sad thoughts – or feeling guilty without having any guilt!! We can’t do this as it is impossible.
Unhappiness, anger, guilt, inner conflicts and stress do not exist on their own unless you provide them power to exist through your thought process. Unhappiness is the feeling that accompanies negative thinking about your life. Feeling guilty or angry is the by-products of your thoughts that produce them. In the absence of that thinking, the unhappiness, or stress, or guilt, or jealousy, can’t exist.
We cannot hold our negative feelings in place other than our own thinking. The next time you feel upset notice your thinking – it has to be negative. Remind yourself that its your thinking that is negative and not your life. This simple awareness of your feelings and the way you think will put you back on path towards happiness.
What I say is not easy but with practice you can learn how to control what you think and subsequently you will also control your feelings. Just shoo the negatives away and get along to live a normal happy life.
I will quote Swami Vivekananda here
“We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.
